1.What are online newspaper paywalls? Are they effective?

paywall is a method of restricting access to content via a paid subscription.Newspapers started implementing paywalls to increase revenue after years of decline in paid print readership and advertising revenue.

2.How are newspapers currently funded? (think about advertising space, cover price of a newspaper & paywalls)

Some newspapers are government-run or at least government-funded; their reliance on advertising revenue and on profitability is less critical to their survival. Some newspapers with high editorial independence, high journalism quality, and large circulation are viewed as newspapers of record.

3.What are the roles of the IPSO and IMPRESS? Why do they exist? When have they been important?

The role of IPSO is to make sure  newspapers account for their actions, protect individual rights, uphold high standards of journalism and help to maintain freedom of expression for the press. The role of IMPRESS is to regulate newspapers. They exist to make sure that newspapers are protected and appropriate for the target audience given and do not offend audience. Newspapers get to choose to join a regulator if they want to.

4.Why is the circulation and advertising revenue of newspapers declining?

More newspapers are advancing to be online e.g on websites/ apps. The population is becoming more dependent on technology therefore more people will find it easier to read stories from newspapers online as it is cheaper and easier to get hold of.

5.How far can online newspapers reach in terms of audience? Research The Guardian/Observer as examples. What online formats have they got?

Online newspapers allow newspapers to reach a mass audience as it branches out to the younger and more technology dependent population. For example the website and app, instagram, twitter for the Guardian/ Observer allow the younger audience to read the newspaper easil. instead of them paying for it physically.
